about

After seeing this on IrishKC.com, sung by Dubliner Luke Kelly, Máirtín took it on board straight away. When arriving back to Cork in June '08, he put it to the lads and with a quick run through, out the back of Locky's pub, The Poacher's Inn, during the Bandon Music Festival and it joined the Fuchsia repertoire. The words come from the influential Ewan MacCall, who wrote it for a BBC radio program about the building of the M1, "Song of a Road" in 1959. The tune itself is based on the Scottish ballad "Come all ye Tramps and Hawker Lads". Many men have to travel for a pay check, no matter where you are from. This sone brings us back to the Adam & Eve in London and stories from John Gildea, a box player of note.
